The genesis of these images was an impromptu act of "gonzo photojournalism" at Melbourne's "Cherry" bar @ a rock club in a laneway named after the band AC/DC - after I had arrived from a wild birthday party earlier that evening.
These original images, published in Melbourne Magazine, led to a commission from Pavement to expand on the material by documenting the burlesque troupe "Baby take a Bow!"
What strikes me as unique about burlesque is the way it glamorises women who do not necessarily fit into the stereotypical images served up by most mainstream glossy magazines. Naturally, the exhibitionism of the subjects is also a perfect vehicle for such a voyeuristic medium as photography.
