The photographs in Reflections of the Rainbow are taken from a series shot at the Rainbow Serpent Music Festival, a trance music bush party held near Beaufort in Central Victoria, which attracts over 5000 people annually.
Beyond a simple recording of an event, the images aim to convey a sense of the emotional release that people attending the event almost invariably seek and experience. When people meet, the hugs are warm and genuine, when people wish to be alone, it is possible to do so within the absurd noise and activity of the dance floor. There are no rules, no expectations of behaviour or dress. The photographs reveal a mix of the detail of the human response interspersed within the wider view of the environment they belong to. The images are visually dynamic, reflecting the energy of the festival and its participants.
